Welcome to the Mad World of Women Writers
Hello. I'm April Dilbeck. Welcome to the ongoing journey of writing and writers. Before we continue, I must advise you that writing is Hard Work! Don't, let anyone fool you. It's you, alone at the computer spending days, weeks months struggling to write the next Best Seller. Also be aware that from now on your PC is your lord and master, and you are its slave.
Like all journeys in life, it begins with steps.
First step: you write, then edit until its perfect
Second step: you submit it to an agent.
Third step: you wait weeks or months before hearing back before said agent informs you that alas, the publisher has passed.
Forth step: repeat above. It's a wonder any debut novel is published before the writer either dies of old age or sheer frustration!
To alleviate some of the sturm und drang, four women writers and myself have created a website (Wild Women Who Write ) to guide you along the journey. It offers tips, insights and we also have a podcast when we interview top selling authors who share their experience. The link to the website is:

My debut novel, The Sometime Sister, is available on Amazon, Target, and Black Rose Writing. You can imagine how speechless I was--okay, I've never been speechless--that Black Rose Writing agreed to publish the book. BW is releasing my second novel The Unreliables, February 22, 2022. I've been a long-time member of the Atlanta Writers Club, where I connected with these wild women!

I'm a mom, wife, writer, and runner. I write a blog about living with OCD and Harm OCD (find link to blog in Our Voices tab) and am currently seeking representation for
When I'm not writing about OCD, I love writing sci-fi and fantasy. I've written
for Equill: Atlanta Writers Club Online Magazine, Awakened Voices, The
Bitter Southerner, The New Southern Fugitives, Atlanta Parent, and
others (links in Our Voices tab on the website).
In my spare time (Ha!), I love to trail run, and occasionally even cosplay.

I’m a first-generation Hungarian-Canadian. At age twelve, I became a U.S. citizen, a hybrid of the tight-knit immigrant community in Montreal, Quebec, and the American Dream. I began my debut novel, South of Happily, when my father died suddenly while living in Thailand. What started as a love letter to a lost parent, turned into a story about staying sane when life tries to shove us through the business end of a meat grinder.
I'm currently writing the second book in this series: North of Happily.
When I’m not working or writing, you can find me hanging out with my family or giving my dogs flea baths.
I’ve been a member of The Atlanta Writers Club since 2011, and one of the Wild Women since 2020. The Wild Women are cool. I can’t believe they put up with me.

I’m a published writer of short fiction, nonfiction articles and poetry, as well as an interviewer, illustrator, editor and mentor. My degree in Creative Writing is from the University of Arizona where I was awarded a faculty scholarship.
I muse about creativity on my blog Ulterior Colors, passing along insights and wisdom from professors, mentors, and various artists across time.
I am currently working on a novel, Ricky
Lightfoot, which takes place in Arizona, where I lived for twenty-five
years. The support and camaraderie of fellow women writers has been
invaluable to this endeavor.

While living on Long Island, NY, I began free-lancing, selling feature articles to a local newspaper. My first published article was in Everywoman’s Horoscope and described interior designs for all twelve astrological signs. I was born on the cusp of Leo/Virgo. This is very advantageous. It gives me a good excuse to have conversations with myself without sounding nuts.
My writing career has been as varied as my life, from articles for newspapers, to writing a manual on discrimination for the State of North Carolina, to writing feature articles for an antiques-related monthly publication.
I now devote myself to writing mystery/detective novels and have just published my first novel, A Sacred Thing, on Amazon, which is the story of a stolen African shaman's mask.
We also have a podcast where we interview other women authors who share with us their writing journey.
Stay tuned!
